Contents Riemannian surfaces are one dimensional complex manifolds, with an extremely rich mathematical structure, which serves as introduction and motivating examples for many more advanced mathematical theories. For example, a compact Riemannian surface can be always described by algebraic equations.
In this lecture, we will study Riemannian surfaces with the aim proving the famous Riemann-Roch theorem, which relates surprisingly the existence of meromorphic functions with prescribed singularities to topological properties of the Riemannian surface.
