Contents We will study the fundamental group of knot complements and we will introduce and study the Alexander polynomial of knots. We will discuss related topics as time permits. The course will be interactive and example driven. Active participation of the audience is strongly encouraged.

Recommended previous knowledge basics of fundamental groups and homology groups. It is helpful to attend algebraic topology III at the same time, but not necessary.
