Contents Euler systems are a technical tool to prove finiteness results for Selmer groups and results of main conjecture type in Iwasawa theory. In this seminar we will study these Euler systems following the expositions of Kato and Rubin and will show the Iwasawa main conjecture for cyclotomic fields as an application. Prerequisites are good knowledge of local and global duality for Galois cohomology.
