Abelian Varieties Semester WiSe 2024 / 25
Lecturer Julio de Mello Bezerra
Type of course (Veranstaltungsart) Seminar
German title Abelsche Varietäten
Contents Abelian Varieties are multidimensional generalizations of elliptic curves, in the sense that they are algebraic varieties with an abelian group structure, which are ubiquitous in algebraic geometry and number theory. We will learn their definition and properties, and depending on the background and interest of the students, we may also study their analytic properties and classification over the complex numbers, as well as arithmetic applications from the theory developed.
Literature Abelian Varieties - Mumford (2nd ed.)
Recommended previous knowledge Algebraic Geometry I. Algebraic Geometry II is also recommended, as the more advanced talks will use sheaf cohomology, but some of these notions can be recalled during the talks depending on the background of the students
