Quadratic forms are key to answering classical questions in number theory, for example which natural numbers can be written as sums of two or more squares. Our main goal is the proof of the Hasse-Minkowski theorem, which gives a criterion for quadratic equations of a certain type to have a solution over the rational numbers. Literature J.-P.
