Selected topics in the algebraic topology of manifolds Semester SoSe 2017 Lecturer Markus Land Type of course (Veranstaltungsart) Vorlesung Contents We will study some properties of the homotopy type of manifolds: The homotopy invariance of Stiefel-Whitney classes (and numbers), the Steenrod-problem which deals with the question which classes in the homology of a manifold are represented by (sub)manifolds, and Rokhlin's theorem about signatures of 4-dimensional spin manifolds.
