Characteristic classes SemesterWiSe 2017 / 18 Lecturer Stefan Friedl, Gerrit Herrmann and Enrico Toffoli Type of course (Veranstaltungsart) Seminar Contents We will introduce characteristic classes of vector bundles and we will study many applications thereof. Characteristic classes play an essential role in many branched of pure mathematics. The seminar is also ideal for practicing the techniques from algebraic topology. Literature Milnor, Stasheff: Characteristic classes. Recommended previous knowledge it is recommended that you are acquainted with homology groups at the level of Algebraic Topology II. Furthermore you should either be familiar with cohomology groups or you should attend Algebraic Topology III Time/Date Wednesday 12:30 - 14 Registration
