Elliptic Curves Semester SoSe 2020 Lecturer Walter Gubler Type of course (Veranstaltungsart) Seminar Contents This seminar aims at an introduction to the geometry of elliptic curves. They are projective group varieties of dimension 1 and they can be described explicitly as a plane curve of degree 3. They are basic objects for some of the most challenging problems in mathematics like the Fermat conjecture and the Birch-Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture. We will describe the group structure, study homomorphisms, introduce the Tate module and the Weil pairing. Literature J.
